Unofficial United Methodist Women's Day at General Conference, April 24th, Fort Worth Convention Center

At the initiative of some Texas United Methodist Women, we have been collaborating with presidents of conferences in Texas to organize an UNOFFICIAL "United Methodist Women's Day" at General Conference. The goal is to enable interested United Methodist Women to
attend General Conference and observe the proceedings and to have a visible presence of UMW. Please share the following information with your membership.

The informal "UMW Day" will be on Thursday, April 24. Forth Worth Convention Center. Women are encouraged to bring lunch, as there will be little time for the long lines!

In order to have time together as United Methodist Women, we will convene during the morning break at 10:35 am in the Water Garden (this is connected to the Convention Center at the opposite end from the main arena).

This informal time will include greetings, some information about UMW presence at General Conference, an update on a mid-day immigrant rights rally, and a time of prayer for the General Conference. Response magazine staff will be on hand to get pictures (and may briefly interview a few members).

We'll get back to the arena by 11:30 in time for the youth address. We would appreciate it if conference presidents who are able to be present on April 24 will give greetings and help to facilitate that session.

From 12:45 - 2:30 (during the lunch hour) we are encouraging United Methodist Women to join us at the United Methodist Church Task Force on Immigration rally, also in the Water Garden. Women's Division is an active member of the Task Force and has helped to organize this event.

It's purpose is to lift up the presence and gifts of United Methodists who are immigrants, and to affirm official United Methodist policy on immigrant, civil and human rights.

The rally will be led by Bishops Minerva Carcano and Max Whitfield, co-chairs of the Task Force and will include our president, Kyung Za Yim.

United Methodist Women of the New York Annual Conference have made a banner for us to use, and you are welcome to bring conference banners as well.

This event is optional for those who choose to participate. We hope we will have a lively contingent!

There will be several places to find each other and other UMW at General Conference on April 24:

The UMW display as a rendezvous site. It is with the Global Ministries display in the main lobby. During plenary times, look for UMW in the balcony of the arena (this is the only place that guests can sit).
